Murmur

Reviewed: "Dynamite" CD Single

MURMUR "DYNAMITE"Essex based rock tinted pop.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, but its very difficult trying to judge a band that I've never heard of before based on a single song (unless its Timmy Mallet's "polka dot bikini" or something), but here's goes, lets give it a shot.

"Dynamite", the new single from Murmur, is an uplifting little guitar based pop / soft rock song, in the vein Snow Patrol / U2 etc. Its kind of catchy, in an NME-friendly kind of a way, and is very well recorded and well executed.

But, and based purely on this one track, Murmur really need to step out of the shadows of their influences and shine on their own merits. And, as a matter of personal taste, Id wack the guitars up a bit as well - make the song more rock / pop as opposed to pop / rock.

Otherwise, the qualities are all in place for a potentially great band, if they can find their own voice and direction.
