ALBUM OF THE MONTH - JUNE 2008

The HorrificsTheatrical horror punk from darkest Texas!

Take all of the usual elements that you would expect from a horror punk band:

Obligatory Misfits Cover - check!
Lots of 'woah-oh-woahs' in the choruses - check!
Plenty of comedy / horror references in the songs - check!
Band members that don't mind putting on a bit of makeup to look even more horrific - check!

...and the Horrifics tick all of the boxes, plus a whole lot more!

From the punk infused charge of 'We Glow in the Dark' to the Dave Vanian-esque crooning of 'Sweet Guill-O-Tina', The Horrifics serve up a Halloween party album to rival many of their (assumed) influences, and even the Misfits cover (and no, I'm not a big fan of cover versions) adds a new dimension to the already classic track.

And the main thing that sets The Horrifics apart from a lot of similar bands out there at the moment is the one fundamental aspect that applies to all forms of music - the songwriting. The pace, structure, hooks and choruses (and not forgetting the woah-oh-woahs!) of every song ensure that each track is memorable, without ever boring the listener or becoming too predictable.

And the best thing is, having heard the previous album at the same time as reviewing 'Hellbent 4 Blood!!!', The Horrifics seem to be improving all the time - the futures bright, the futures Horrific!

Overall? Its our album of the month for June. 'Nuff said.
