SIXTH FLOOR

Voltcase likes Clutch, a lot, and so any band that claims to all be 'all big Clutch fans' must be good in our book! Unless its Clutch themselves who say that, of course, in which case it would be a little bit arrogant...

Anyway, back to the case in point. John King, the front man from Kentucky's finest Sixth Floor, drops in for a chat with Voltcase, all of which can be read below.

And after you've read it, make sure you track down the music here - and yes, it does kick ass, and its more rock n roll than Elvis's left leg - go listen NOW!

Hello there! Welcome to Voltcase, how are things?
Everything's great, heading back into to studio to record a new cd in a few weeks to unleash to our family of freaks!

How would you describe your sound to a stranger in just three words:
W.F.O wide fucking open

By all accounts you all play in a load of different bands - how many bands in total are you all members of? 200?
That's a good one Billy plays with me in my acoustic band and he also plays with The New Gods and Seven Limbs, i guess you could call him a bit of a whore but that's why we love him!

So what drives you to write and play your music - is it because it just pours naturally from your soul and you feel the need to share it with the world, or because its just a good excuse to meet girls and to get pissed?
All the above j/k, I've always written songs, guess it's my one talent lol. I use it to express my views, views of others and lots of times to vent so I don't go postal!I try to write about subjects working class people can relate to.

Who (or what) are your biggest influences? Any bands that we might not have heard of that you think we should check out?
We all listen to everything from country to rap to slayer just depends on the mood, My biggest influence is probably Ac/Dc, Jarrod digs the 70's guitar rock (EVH, SABBATH ETC), Billy's a big QOTSA fan and George likes the old Metallica! We're all big Clutch fans!

So what’s the music scene like in Kentucky, or the South in general, right now?
In our area of south central Kentucky there is an abundance of top quality bands that can hold their own with anyone, the only problem is limited places to play rock music and showcase all the bands we have.

You seem to have played with a load of cool bands. Any in particular (like Hell Yeah!) that you want to namedrop for us?
We've opened for Lynryd Skynyrd, Disturbed, Black Stone Cherry( who are friends of ours), Ratt, Stuck Mojo and Betty Blowtorch

Do you consider yourselves to be totally original / unique in what you do, or are you just following in the footsteps of the greats who have gone before?
I think it's almost impossible to be totally original. I think you can here a lot of our influences in our music. We have great respect for all music, we just try to put our own twist on it.

Why should the lazy general public make the effort to check you out, and what are your plans for the future?
They might actually hear something that relates to instances in their lives and say "hey, that's my song"

And finally..... what does the word 'Voltcase' mean to you?
To me it sounds like a place you'd store a high powered sex toy.....
