How are you? And where did the name Lady Moon come from?
I'm fine, thanks. Keeping busy between work, recording, writing, and other projects. Lady Moon came to me when i saw a picture in a magazine. It was a woman sitting in a 1/2 crescent moon. The pic is up on our site.
If you were talking to a stranger, how would you describe yourself in three words:
Mysterious, sensual, & whimsical.
Do any outside influences, such as films and art, effect your music at all? Any in particular?
I've always loved creative writing, & dark poetry. I had a poem, "Broken Hearts" which is now a song, make the front page of an internationals publication. It's up on Poetry.com. Now that song is up on our site.
Who (or what) are your biggest influences? Any bands that we might not have heard of that you think we should check out?
Laura's influences, & feel free to check any of these out: Diamanda Galas, Christian Death with Rozz Williams, Lycia, Fields of the Nephilim, The Mission, London After Midnight, Love Like Blood, Tiamat, The Damned, Opera Noire, 69 Eyes, Abney Park, Cruxshadows, The Dreamside, 80's new/dark wave, punk, glam, some black metal, like Theatres Des Vampires, & Dark Throne.
Mike's influences, & feel free to check these out: Black Sabbath, late 60s-70s, hard rock, psychedelic, trip, garage, punk, Blue Cheer, Hendrix, old Nektar, old Pink Floyd, Captain Beyond, Bloodrock, The Damned, Ramones, Arthur Brown, metal, Priest, Maiden, thrash, black death, doom, viking metal, Bathory, Celtic Frost, old Slayer, goth, Fields, Sisters, Lycia, Into the Abyss, Tiamat, Falkenback, Kampfar, Witchcraft, Opeth "damnation". I'm currently in a band Trails of Blood, which is a black/death metal band, lead vokills, & guitar.
What’s the music scene like in New Jersey at the moment?
There are plenty of cool goth clubs in Lyndhurst like, Axis Lounge, Newark, there's QXT's, New York City, is only 10 minutes from me, which is great. As far as shows, i was able to catch Empire Hydeous, The Mission, Peter Murphy, & 69 Eyes when they came around.
You clearly have a fondness for all things gothic - would you say that’s the real you, or are you just gothic some of the time?
This is who i am. I incorporate this into my everyday lifestyle. Some people don't like the "goth" label, but i don't mind the label at all if it is what it is.
Your profile tagline is "erotic pleasures and tears" - is that a fair reflection on you, your music, or both?
My tagline is "Erotic Pleasures & Tears", because that's a powerful line in my song "Fire in the Rain", which will be on the new CD, to be titled Erotic Pleasures & Tears". Hopefully it will be done by the end of the summer/fall.
Alcoholic tipple of choice?
Drinks go with food. Red wine with meat, white wine with fish/poultry. Cinco De Mayo, there will be lots of coronas, Margaritas, & tequilia. Mike usually has any type of beer & Jack Daniels.
Why should the lazy general public make the effort to check you out?
Between the music & the lyrics, there's a contrast that makes us very unique. the music is dreamy, atmospheric, dark, & trippy. It tends to put you in a trance-like state. The vocals are sensual, yet haunting. The lyrics are deep, heart-felt, & a journey to the darkside. for the future, our song "Karma's Curse" will be featured on a Halloween horror compilation with Midnight Syndicate & others. For more information, go here. We are currently recording our first full-length cd, which will hopefully be done summer/fall.
I'm working on guest vocals for a black metal project with Key of Mythras, & Trails of Blood. If you like things heavy, check out both bands on MySpace. After the full length CD is finished, I hope to recruit a few members for some live shows.
And finally..... what does the word 'Voltcase' mean to you?
Mike: Lots of electrical currents that go through someone's body, then they become a Voltcase.
Laura: That bands are the electricity, and you gather all the latest information, for the people, you get on the case, so, thus Voltcase.
